The Development Office at Aberdeen Hall exists:
As is the case with most independent schools, Aberdeen Hall relies on gifts and donations to ensure our continued growth and development. Tuition is designed to cover the school’s normal operating costs including; teacher salaries, rent, building maintenance, general equipment and an extensive list of smaller items needed to run a school. Fundraising assists us with the enhancement of our programmes and the creation of truly inspirational facilities. The difference between "very good" and "excellent" is often determined by the additional resources and facilities made available by your donations.
As an independent, non denominational, not for profit institution, Aberdeen Hall is able to issue tax receipts under the registered charity number: 85908 7348 RT0001.
Aberdeen Hall’s Development programme includes:
If you would like to learn more about the programmes or have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact the Development Director, Susanne Raye. Telephone (250) 491 1270 or email susanne.raye@aberdeenhall.com
The Annual Crest Fund focuses on the school’s more immediate needs. Each year the Head of School meets with members of the faculty and Board of Directors to assess the areas that require enhancement in order to maintain our excellent level of programming. For this year’s Crest Fund, there is a choice of four areas to donate.
In providing different areas of investment we hope donors can express their passions and philanthropic interests by selecting a particular area to support. The Crest Fund will commence in the fall and end in the spring of each academic year. Our focus is on 100% participation and we hope that all of our families, staff and friends will contribute at a level that is right for them. Link: Annual Crest Fund Brochure
The Bursary and Scholarship Trust is a very important programme that provides tuition assistance for students who would otherwise be unable to attend Aberdeen Hall. The programme is designed to receive contributions from individual donors, families, corporations, foundations and charities. Assistance ranges from full scholarship to partial bursary. The Bursary and Scholarship Trust helps Aberdeen Hall create and maintain a healthy and diverse student population which benefits all students. Link: Bursary and Scholarship Trust Brochure
The Annual Gala is a fundraising event organized by the Gala Committee and usually takes the form of a dinner dance. Link: Gala News
Donations to the Aberdeen Hall Endowment Fund are held in an interest bearing investment for perpetuity. The interest from the investment can be used in a variety of ways, including programme funding, bursaries, scholarships and facility improvements. Endowment benefactors will have an opportunity to meet with our Development Office and direct their funds.
Please send cheques made payable to Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School to Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School, Development Office, 2455 Acland Rd, Kelowna BC, V1X 6N5.
Donations to the United Way can be directed to Aberdeen Hall. Donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes and be recognized as a United Way donor as well as a supporter of Aberdeen Hall.
A donation of life insurance allows you to make a significant contribution to Aberdeen Hall in the future by making modest contributions now. By purchasing a new life insurance policy and naming Aberdeen Hall as the beneficiary, the premiums paid will be recognized as a charitable gift and you will be eligible to receive tax benefits. Alternatively, by donating an existing policy to Aberdeen Hall you will receive tax benefits for the cash surrender value and any accumulated dividends or interest.
Aberdeen Hall can be named as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your RRSP or RRIF. A change in law in June, 2001 makes it possible to name charities directly as beneficiaries, and the estate will be deemed to have made the gifts and be entitled to an offsetting charitable receipt.
Donations of publicly traded securities are an appealing gift option. As of May 2006 the Federal Government eliminated capital gains taxes on donated stock. Eligible securities include share, bills, futures and units in mutual funds that are traded on Canadian, U.S. and international exchanges as prescribed by the Income Tax Act. An example of the tax benefits is detailed below.

Many companies and corporations have programmes for their employees where their charitable gifts are matched. Please contact your Human Resource Department to find out if a programme exists.
We welcome your donation in whatever manner you choose to give. We encourage you to seek independent professional advice and work with our Development Director to determine the best method of giving for you. For more information, please contact:

We pay tuition, why is there a Development Programme?
Tuition is designed to cover the school’s normal operating costs including; teacher salaries, rent, building maintenance, general equipment and an extensive list of smaller items needed to run a school. The Development Programme provides funds that can be channeled directly into programming excellence and the creation of inspirational facilities.
Who decides how the money is spent?
Many of our programs are designed to meet specific needs, so the donors are essentially making these decisions. For monies that are not specifically directed, the Finance Committee consults with the staff and administration, and makes recommendations to the school’s Board of Directors on how the resources are managed. The Board of Directors ultimately sets and approves the school’s budgets. Considerable efforts are made to balance the fundraising contributions across the different age groups and departments.
