Aberdeen Hall’s Kindergarten is a full day programme that operates from 8:30am – 3:15pm each school day. Our comprehensive academic programme is taught by a dedicated team of teachers who are certified by the Ministry of Education. We meet and exceed all of the Ministry’s prescribed learning outcomes and enrich the classes with numerous field trips and experiential learning opportunities.
Aberdeen Hall’s Kindergarten creates a solid foundation of basic skills, fosters a love of learning, and develops self-esteem. The entire curriculum is designed to allow each student to progress at his/her own rate and to prepare the students for our enriched Grade One programme. Some students are ready for work beyond the Kindergarten programme, and individual adjustments are made to maximize individual growth and development.
In Language Arts, students are working to recognize and form all of the letters and sounds of the alphabet. During our daily morning lessons, students are taught how to put sounds together to form words and begin to decode written language. We combine formal lessons with student directed activities to teach a variety of reading, writing and listening skills. Students are encouraged to tell about happenings, to show and share at group time, to participate in small drama plays and games, to learn poems and songs and to enjoy daily story time. They become confident about learning to read after “successful reading” of familiar songs, poems, rhymes and stories.
In Mathematics, the curriculum continues with sensorial materials, and then progresses to symbol and quantity work by introducing a series of manipulatives. Once the students can master numbers to 20, they are given lessons on numbers and patterns to 100. The concepts 1-digit and 2-digit addition and subtraction are taught. Students are taught to collect, organize and analyze data. Daily lessons and activities are designed to introduce and reinforce elementary numeracy skills.
The Science and Cultural part of our programme offer students opportunities to experiment, discover, and experience the world we live in. The goal of our Social Studies programme is to develop thoughtful, responsible and active citizens who are able to acquire the requisite information to consider multiple perspectives and to make reasoned judgments. In Science, our lessons include numerous simple experiments that are designed to be conducted by the students themselves.
Cooperation and Positive Social SkillsThe Kindergarten programme also instructs the students on the importance of manners, sharing, and supporting one another. Students are included in the regular school assemblies and have numerous opportunities to learn and interact with the older students.
