Middle Years Programme at Aberdeen Hall  Grades 7 to 9

These middle years are a tremendously important stage for all students and we have designed an excellent programme that includes a focus on exceptional academic, social and emotional development.  Our goal is to give the students the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to make the most effective decisions as they enter their adolescent years.

Programme Outline:

Aberdeen Hall's Middle Years Programme is designed to teach our students the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary to have enjoyable and successful high school years, and to ultimately live happy, balanced and purposeful lives.

The Middle Years Programme at Aberdeen Hall is both engaging and empowering. Our rich academic environment is designed to provide the foundation and enrichment necessary for adolescent learners to bridge the transition from elementary to senior school.  Our faculty has specialty training and experience in mentoring and motivating adolescents.  Small class sizes allow our faculty to design lesson plans that respond to the needs of individual students.

Academic success is supported by an effort to expose our students to the world around them. This experiential learning is accomplished through numerous field trips and outdoor leadership opportunities.

Students at Aberdeen Hall take part in a comprehensive Arts programme which includes Music, Visual Art and Drama.  In music, we start the students on a band instrument in Grade Four and continue this instruction through the middle years.  To complete the programme, all students participate in four health and physical education classes per week.

Goals:

  • Provide a rich, accelerated academic programme
  • Teach the attitudes and values required for them to become compassionate and contributing citizens
  • Develop an appreciation for the Arts, including drama, music and visual arts
  •  Provide students with wide array of life experiences beyond the classroom setting,

Philosophy:

The transformation from child to young adult occurs during the middle years.  Our goal during this time is to continue to build on the solid foundation of knowledge and skills taught in the elementary grades, and teach the students the benefits of empathy, perseverance, hard work, integrity, caring, courtesy, respect and kindness.   This can be a confusing and complicated time.   Our Middle Years Programme provides opportunities to succeed, and strategies for learning from and dealing with disappointments.

At Aberdeen Hall, we believe in the importance of manners.  We teach our students how to be kind and support one another, and how to effectively communicate with adults.  We understand that mistakes are made, and that these mistakes can make for valuable learning opportunities.
