Duke of Edinburgh
Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme is a world-wide recognition system designed to help students develop balanced, healthy lifestyles. Beginning in Grade 9, students at Aberdeen Hall are encouraged to pursue their Bronze level of achievement. To attain this goal, students must successfully complete a minimum number of hours in each of the following four categories:
- Service. It is hoped that students will learn the value of altruism and community outreach.
- Adventurous Journey. Students learn to appreciate the out of doors through an organized, challenging adventure. This often takes the form of an experiential education excursion during our” Horizons Week”.
- Skills. Here participants must demonstrate a dedicated pursuit of a specific skill. This requires students to establish reasonable objectives set by people knowledgeable in the are of their chosen skill.
- Physical Recreation. Students fulfilling this category must demonstrate a consistent effort to take part in, and appreciate physical recreation.
Once students successfully complete their Bronze level, they are encouraged to complete the subsequent Silver and Gold levels, which become increasingly demanding.
The staff at Aberdeen Hall provides regular support to students enrolled in the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, as it is our hope that earning these awards will help students develop healthy lifelong habits.
