BC Provincial All-Star Skipping Team Visit

On Monday, April 23rd Aberdeen Hall students were delighted and inspired by the BC Provincial All-Star Skipping Team when they visited our school and put on a show of their abilities! Students have been outside the school skipping their hearts out every recess since.

Healthiest Month Ever

Aberdeen Hall is taking on the 5-2-1-0 Healthiest Month Ever Challenge from April 10th to May 10th! Staff and students will be tracking their progress in a daily Passport to Progress. During this month staff, students and Aberdeen Hall families will challenge themselves to adhere to the following daily requirements:

5—At least 5 fruits and veggies per day
2—less than 2 hours of recreational screen time per day
1—At least one hour of exercise per day
0—No sugar-based beverages

As well, staff and students will participate in additional physical education sessions and boot camps. Also, there will be weekend challenges that the whole family can take part in. The goal of this challenge is for participants to feel the effects of healthier lifestyle choices and incorporate these healthy habits into their lives for the years to come. Spirit Week in the Junior School

I am always impressed and inspired by the enthusiasm of the students at Aberdeen Hall. They are motivated, enquiring individuals who eagerly participate in school life. I observe their dedication daily in the classroom, but the students really had a chance to shine during Spirit Week.

The book fair was an enormous success. Our avid readers were excited to view, purchase and read books from the vast selection offered. The enthusiastic support of the students resulted in a wardrobe malfunction for Mr. Grieve as his tie was shortened each time a goal was met. Thanks to Cindy Bollhorn and her team of hard working parents who made it all possible.

The students raised money for the United Way Campaign on Crazy Hair and House Colour Day. The children supported a worthy cause, had an opportunity to work together as a team and had a lot of fun in the process. The card building competition encouraged students to cooperate and be creative. Kalamalka had the tallest structure, Skaha the funkiest, Osoyoos the fanciest and Shuswap the most innovative. All the teams can be proud of their accomplishments.

On pink shirt day students focused on being positive peers and showed their support for anti bullying. Members of the student council facilitated the positive peer stations and students from the senior school came to the classrooms to explain the reason and purpose of pink shirt day. The level of concern and maturity among the students was admirable.

Spirit Week was an overwhelming success, thanks to our remarkable students who never fail to amaze me with their sensational school spirit.

Celebration of Education

Please join us Saturday, May 12th at Aberdeen Hall for our annual Celebration of Education from 10 am till 2 pm. The event will offer an open house with tours of the school, lunch-time BBQ, activities for all ages including a bouncy castle, face painting, fun science experiments, archery, volleyball and the grand opening of the new high school building.

Science Fair

Congratulations to the Aberdeen Hall science fair team members for their incredible showing at the District science fair. Honorable Mention went to Charlotte Benitz. Bronze medal winners included: Reece Walsh and Jennifer St. Gelais. Gold medal winners included: Haylee Hastings, Alisha Hill-Turner, Ali Grieve, Casey Broughton, Katie van Kampen, Katie O’Neill, Sam Bunka, Brandon Chai and Julian Holzhey. All nine gold medal winners will be going on to the Regional Science Fair at UBCO on April 12 & 13th. Way to go team!

Chess Whiz Takes 2nd Place

Congratulations to Fabian Himmelstein, Aberdeen Hall Grade 2 student, who placed second in this year’s School District 23 Chess Tournament! Fabian’s placement in the tournament qualifies him for the BC K-12 Championships in Victoria this April. Way to go Fabian!
