Grade Four

Grade 4

It is our commitment to provide a safe, enthusiastic and motivating environment, which encourages our students to become active and responsible global citizens of the future. We Focus on the following skills in Grade 4; note taking, paragraph writing, reading fluently at grade level, how to read and use textbooks, dictionaries, how to gather and record info from many sources, read two-part questions, analyze and explain thoughts, proofreading one’s work, confidence when presenting information or speaking a language, being responsible for one’s learning, and we encourage character building.

Our students:

-will visit The University of British Columbia Okanagan for an overnight stay to become familiar with post education options and experience campus life

-participate in our annual, “Speech Arts Day” by producing a five paragraph essay and deliver it as a speech

-act in an annual dramatic play or musical production

- participate in our annual, “Eureka Science Fair” and choose, research, and present a particular aspect of science which interests them

Student testimonials:

“First of all, Grade 4 is awesome!  Secondly, the teacher makes all the subjects really fun.  This term we are learning about light, colour, and the eye in Science.  In the first term we learned about sound, the ear, and how sound is created.  Social Studies is really cool, because we are learning about First Nations people of Canada.  The thing I like most about Grade 4 is that my class size is small and it makes it easy for me to make lots of friends.” –Julian

“I love my Aberdeen Hall Grade 4 class because of how small my class is and how much one on one time I get to spend with my teacher.  Also, I like all the fantastic fieldtrips we go on.  For example, we get to learn how to ski on one of our fieldtrips.  Lastly, my favourite thing about Aberdeen Hall is how much you learn, and how much fun the teachers make it!” – Ariel

Parent testimonials:

“The Grade 4 programme is structured to equip children to be individual thinkers, hands-on learners, and to formulate opinions and conclusions regarding their own work.  The programme is challenging, hence keeping the children engaged at all times.  The transition into Middle School will not be a daunting  experience for them, as they will be adequately prepared to take on yet another stimulating academic year.  As parents, it is also comforting to see that a warm, friendly, and encouraging atmosphere for children is still maintained in spite of the obvious focus on academic excellence.  “Grade 4 rocks”, as my daughter often says.” -Prenesh and Charmaine Govender
